B & D landscape has a large range of mulches to enhance your gardens and landscapes. Mulches help minimize evaporation and if applied thick enough will suppress weeds. Mulches can prevent soil erosion without damaging the soil structure. Mulches help your garden by releasing nutrients into the soil by the natural breaking down of the organic mulch material.
What mulch should you use?
This comes down to a personal selection (what you like the look of and the aesthetics of your garden), but on the ‘technical' side the finer the mulch the less water will evaporate as there are less air pockets for it to be drawn from. The same applies for weed control.
How much do you need?
General applications require a depth of 100mm to minimize loss of water and weed infestation.
i.e. 1m3 for 10m2 in coverage, however, our trained staff can help you with calculating your particular requirements.
Tea Tree Mulch is a fine to medium golden coloured mulch, which performs well on slopes and provides excellent moisture retention and weed suppressing qualities. While Tea Tree has a rich aroma it is only noticeable when disturbed and it always allows for excellent water penetration.
Forest mulch is a variety of trees which are superfinely mulched together which gives you a 'forest floor' appearance to your garden. Is very good for your garden as it has a variety of different tree materials rather than just one type as found in most mulches. One of our cheapest and best all-rounder mulches.
A dark coloured large woodchip. Its large size means it takes a long time to decompose.
Pine bark is the traditional tan/brown pine bark nuggets approximately 10-50mm in diameter. While it doesn’t handle steep slopes well it takes the longest to break down and provides excellent moisture retention and weed suppressing qualities.
Neat, clean and simple, chips of hardwood for the longest lasting mulch.
This a coarse budget mulch consisting of Greenwaste material. It is a budget mulch and contains no foreign plastics or rubbish like some mulch available on the market.
A very light mulch which makes it easy to spread. Also lighter in color than most mulches. Peanut shell mulch breaks down faster than most other mulches so it is great for the garden as it releases nutrients into the soil by natural breaking down of the organic mulch material.
1" Hoop Pine is a medium sized hoop pine, which consists of dark brown curly strips making it ideal for steep embankments and larger areas, providing excellent moisture retention and weed suppressing qualities. One of the longer lasting mulches.
Shredded sugar cane stems are a great lightweight mulch, and will not take root like pea straw.
Bales are tightly packed and the straw breaks off in pads like tiles, making it easy to lay around plants. Make each 'tile' as thin as possible. Wet down after laying. Good ingredient in compost heaps.
Bales are tightly rolled and can be laid out in large areas. Wet down after laying. Good ingredient in compost heaps.
